During my travels around Southeast Asia, I didn’t think for one second that part of my journey would mirror that of Richard’s – but I was mistaken…

Valentine's Day in Brugge

I boarded a train on Valentine’s Day with my husband, John, at Central Station in Amsterdam. We were headed for Brugge, the capital of West Flanders Province in Belgium, a cobblestoned gothic town that grew wealthy on the cloth trade in the 11th century. Brugge is considered one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, and in 2000, it was added to the long list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Honeymoon in Laos?

Close your eyes.  When you hear the word ‘honeymoon’, what do you think of?  Long walks along wind swept beaches, candle lit dinners overlooking a majestic blue ocean, some sort of tropical paradise, right?  How about a landlocked communist country in the middle of the monsoon season?  My fiancé was skeptical, but I managed to convince her. Despite (or because of) its geopolitical remoteness, Laos proved to be just as romantic as your standard honeymoon destination, if not more so.

On our first vacation together, we spent a romantic six days in Paris. Even if you are not in love, you can easily fall in love in Paris, if not with your partner, then with the city itself. Known as both, “The City of Lights” and “The City of Love,” the city is filled with beauty, history, and countless opportunities to awaken your every sense.
