Inhale in Indian Wells

Waking up early for a morning yoga class at the newly renovated Miramonte Resort and Spa, I was blessed to see one of the most spectacular sunrises in the Coachella Valley. The sky was an artists palette of magenta silhouetting Palm trees with splashes of purple, pink, orange and yellow hues.

Located two hours from Los Angeles between Palm Desert and La Quinta is one of the wealthiest zip codes in the desert. The city attracts a lot of executive retirees looking for a resort lifestyle of playing golf coupled with world class entertainment.

Families flock to see the BNP Paribas Tennis Open at the Tennis Garden showcasing some of the top tennis talent.

Foodies enjoy the nearby Palm Desert Food and Wine Festival and people of all ages come out to hear musical acts at the Coachella Valley Music Festival.

Before or after attending one of these events, The Miramonte Resort and Spa offers wellness classes with morning hikes and yoga to inspire health and help one’s mind and body inhale happiness.

Since this is a boutique property, the staff offers personalized service and activities. One unique experience is a morning hike with Mark Jeffrey, the General Manager of the Miramonte Resort. If his schedule is free, he will meet guests in the lobby with his friendly yellow labrador, Derby, and take guests on a narrative hike up the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto hills. If he is not available, the staff offers a Wellness Walk on Thursday & Friday 9 a.m.

On Saturday & Sunday there is complimentary Yoga on the lawn at 9 a.m., near The Well Spa. Guests learn gentle and dynamic yoga poses with breath work, while flowing from one pose to another. Those who seek a class in the afternoon, can choose an instructor that may teach Kundalini, Iyengar, Hatha or Vinyasa.

Looking to increase your cardio, there is a 24-hour fitness studio with personal trainers offering motivational workouts or you can create your own on treadmills, a Stairmaster, Universal machine and free weights. There are multiple televisions to view while working out.

Other activities around the resort include complimentary bicycles to ride on paved bike paths into Palm Desert for dining or shopping. Afterwards, relax at one of the many pools. The main pool offers plenty of lounge chairs, private cabanas and lanes for lap swimming. There is also an adult only serenity pool and smaller saline soak at the The Well Spa pool.

The Well Spa has been named ‘Best Spa’ by readers of Desert Magazine and ‘Top 100 Resort Spas’ by Conde Nast Traveler. Upstairs there are 13 treatment rooms for massage and facial treatments. Outside on the co-ed courtyard, are comfortable lounge chairs, and two semi-private salt water pools. One is hot with whirlpool jets and the other is a bit cooler.

To compliment your workout, there is a healthy dining option at the resort, The Grove Artisan Kitchen. The Executive chef Paul Hancock is known for preparing fresh, farm-to-table seasonal California dishes. He also features ‘home grown’ fresh herbs and citrus from the resorts garden.

The social hub at the resort is inside the Vineyard lounge for a glass of wine and hand-crafted cocktails. Many locals and resort guests sit around the fire pits among the majestic Santa Rosa Mountains.

Next time you need to unplug, relax, and inhale, the Miramonte Resort and Spa will please all of your senses.
